Sharing rules

How we share fathers' stories

Every story is read by a person before it appears, and edited to protect you, your children and your case. These rules keep the stories honest and safe.

What we publish

  • Your own experience: what happened to you, what you felt, and what helped you keep going.
  • Practical lessons another father could use.
  • Your first name or an alias, and your state. Nothing more about who you are.

What we remove

  • Names of your children, the other parent, judges, lawyers, evaluators or anyone else.
  • Towns, schools, workplaces, case numbers, dates that pin down a case, and photos.
  • Accusations about the other parent or anyone else. Unproven claims about a real person can hurt your case and can expose you to legal risk.
  • Anything hateful or threatening, about anyone.

Editing and consent

  • We may shorten your story or edit it for privacy and clarity. We won't change its meaning.
  • If you leave an email, we'll tell you when it's published and may ask a question first.
  • We may decline a story without giving a reason. Declined stories are deleted after 90 days.
  • You can ask us to remove your published story at any time.

Before you share

Anything public can come up in a custody case, even with names removed. If your case is active, consider asking your attorney first.

If you're struggling

If your story mentions thoughts of harming yourself, we'll reach out with support rather than leave it in a queue. Please don't wait for us: call or text 988, or text HOME to 741741, any hour.
